Open access (OA) combines the availability of research papers online for free with the right to use them in a fully digital environment. OA is the latest advance necessary to disseminate research by fully using the internet for what it was originally intended: to accelerate research. Although the benefits of OA have been proven, there still remains a misunderstanding among academic researchers that limits its full adoption.
